MJ Marketing Strategies was established in 2019 by Michael C. James, a communications veteran whose career includes nearly 15 years as a senior-level marketer inside several Chicago law firms.

A highly accomplished marketer, writer and team leader, Michael has three decades of experience in marketing communications, writing and editing, message development, strategic planning and complex project management. As a consultant focused on legal and professional services, he sits at the intersection of marketing and business development, helping clients create compelling content that speaks to their target audiences and drives the bottom line.

Before establishing his consulting business, Michael served for three years as Director of Marketing at Chicago-based Much Shelist, where he developed and implemented marketing initiatives to support the firm’s strategic plan and attorneys’ business development goals. In 2018, he and his team completed a comprehensive overhaul of the Much brand, which included developing and launching a new logo and identity.

Michael’s legal industry experience also includes senior-level marketing and business development roles at two other Chicago-based firms, as well as a previous seven-year stint at Much. Earlier in his career, he was an account supervisor at a public relations firm and held various editorial and project management roles in the publishing industry.
